Garmin Forerunner 305 – What is in the box?

I was rather impressed by the packaging of the Garmin Forerunner 305. First impressions are good, let’s open the box and see what is in it….

Inside the box there are a number of components, the major items are the watch and the cradle to sync and charge it with.

The wrist unit (the watch)

The watch is not as big as I thought it would be, it is still a bit too big to waerr as anormal watch (and also the battery will not really support that) but it is looks perfectly OK to wear when you train.

The docking cradle

You attach the wrist unit to the docking station to charge the battery or to transfer data to and from your PC/Mac. The dock connects to your computer via a USB cable.

USB cable

The USB cable is for connecting the watch to your PC (or your Mac). The cable is a standard digital cameraUSBcable (mini-USB), so if you bring a digital camera when you go on trips, you do not have to bring two cables.

Charging unit

You can charge the watch using theUSBcable but if you want to charge it using a standard wall socket you need the charging unit. I always charge my watch from the charging unit, it seems more natural to me, and I also believe it is faster and better (I have not tested it though).

An Interchangeable watch strap

In case you have a small wrist or are a child, Garmin included a smaller watchstrap just in case the one included standard  one doesn’t fit your wrist! How nice of Garmin!

A Screwdriver

Garmin is really nice to you, they have even included a screwdriver so it is easy to change the watch strap for the smaller one!

The Heart Rate Monitor chest strap

The strap has to be worn around your chest (on top of your sternum) so it can send your heart rate details to the wrist unit. It is very comfortable to wear, and really easy to put on and take off.

User guides and software

There are tow user guides, a detailed full manual and a quick start-up manual. If you have bought the European version there will be instructions in almost every European language you can think of.

A CD-ROM with theGarminTrainingCentersofterware. It is not a trial version, it comes for completely free with the watch.

And now let’s start using the Garmin Forerunner 305. That is after all what we got it for. See the Garmin Forerunner 305 getting started guide.
